John So this is a screwball tip because I saw some ads for it, and so I ended up getting one. It’s an interesting product. It’s a cardboard box cutter, motorized.
And it just plows through cardboard real fast. But what it really is, is basically just an assisted knife. There’s a blade, it’s like a box cutter with a motorized assist so you can really zoom through the boxes. This has been promoted here and there. I’m going to give you the one that I got and played with. I guess it’s Kelin 300 mAh cardboard box cutter, 2026 version.
Adam What’s wrong with scissors?
John You can’t cut through cardboard with scissors.
Adam Yeah, you can. They cut through cardboard all the time with scissors.
John Wow. So the thing about these cutters—and you look it up on Amazon as a cardboard box cutter, motorized or whatever—is that you want the cheap one because they’re all the same. There are 40 different versions of the same exact thing, this typical Chinese product. There’s a million versions of it, and they vary in price from the cheapest I’ve seen, $19—this one I got for $19, but now it’s $20—to $50 for the exact same product. Get the cheap one. They do work. If you’ve seen ads for them… It takes a little more force than you think, but it’s a good way to cut up a cardboard box into cardboard strips.
Adam Well, okay. Valid point. We have a lot of boxes at the end of the week, and usually I have a knife. I have a pocket knife, you know, the kind you pull out and it opens automatically.
John Oh, it’s called a stiletto.
Adam No, no. There’s a little hook on it, and so it slips into your right front pocket with a clip. Then when you pull it out, if you pull it out with a little bit of backwards motion, it automatically opens the blade so I can shiv them real quick. So I use that to cut up the boxes, and I think that this motorized box cutter may be for me.
John It might be, but again, get the cheap one.
Adam The cheap one, yes, the cheap one.
John And in this case, it’s the cheapest one with the most powerful battery: 3,000 milliamp hours. They do work. But they make it sound like it’s a saw. It’s not. It’s an assisted blade.
