John: For everybody out there, should be a gardener. If they’re not, they should have potted plants somewhere in their apartment.

Adam: You should be a gardener or just learn how to code.

John: So the tip of the day are terracotta watering spikes. They have them all over the place. They sell them there. It looks like a giant carrot and you fill them with water and they water the plant. You put a bottle of water in the top hole and it’ll water plants without you having to attend to them. In case you’re on vacation, you take a week off, you go someplace for the weekend, you have a plant that needs watering. This takes care of it. It’s a very good tip.

Adam: How does it function?

John: Well, it turns out that it leaks. There’s all these different mechanisms for watering plants.

Adam: So what you don’t want, because most people get on Amazon, they’ll buy some internet of things, connected watering hose thing. You don’t want that? Why do we not want that?

John: Because what happens if the net goes down? What happens if your router reboots? It’s nonsense. Just have some simple device, a terracotta watering spike. There’s a bunch of people that make them. And the ones you want they look like a carrot. You soak them first and stick them in the ground and then stick a water bottle in the top. Fill with water and it’ll drain. As the soil gets dry, it’ll leak out the water very slowly and keep the plant from dropping dead.

Adam: Huh. That is a very good tip. I like that. That is cool. That’s an old school analog tip. How long will it last? I mean, how much water do you, how long will the water last from the bottle that you put into it?

John: I don’t know. I’ve never run out of water.

Adam: You’ve never been out of the house for more than three hours.

John: I don’t go out of the house. I stay here.
