John: this was suggested by one of our producers. And I thought it was a great idea. He said “I don’t know, the guy is always on Leo’s show…”. This is a Steve Gibson product. From GRC. This is a product called In Control: https://www.grc.com/incontrol.htm

Adam: .htm… How long has this product been around? Since the mid nineties?

John: So, this allows you to really turn off your upgrades.

Adam: Your Windows upgrades?

John: Yes this is for Windows. Mac users are out of luck and so is Linux that doesn’t need this stuff. This turns off your updates permanently so that it doesn’t keep pestering you, and it seems to work. My thing is ludicrous because it tries to upgrade and then it says I can’t anyway. But it wastes time and money. And it’s going to screw it up one of these days. So I would take a look at In Control. And the funny thing is, in the process while looking for this, he had another product, which is not the Tip of the Day but one I should mention, and it’s called (this is a really good one): Never 10. If you run an old Windows 8 or 7 or something like that…

Adam: Oh wow. Who’s running that?

John: Well, I’m sure there’s somebody out there. And they probably already know about this I’m sure because this basically kills any attempt to try and install Windows 10 on a Windows 7 or 8.1 system that keeps demanding to be upgraded. I may be too late for most people because it’s already been done. The damage has been done. But I thought this was a funny idea for a product too. They should do “Never 11” because all it says is “Oh you gotta move it up!”.

Here’s what bugs me about Windows 11: I’ve said this before. There’s one knuck I have. When 11 first showed up, I said “well, see if you can use it” because they have to have this hardware chip that allowes you to do some sort of security, and so you run it on an old system that’s running Windows 10 and it says “Nope, you can’t upgrade. Don’t worry about it. You can’t upgrade because you don’t have some chip” or whatever. So all of a sudden now everybody gotta upgrade to 11! So the whole thing was bogus! Lies!

Adam: They’re just lying baby!
