Pineapples are not bananas

Pineapples are not bananas

John C. Dvorak: I have a food tip. The only reason I’m bringing this up is that every time I go to the store, I notice it’s a common misconception. I’ve actually discussed this with fellow shoppers, and very few people seem to know this simple fact: pineapples are not bananas. They don’t ripen after being picked; they stay at the same level of ripeness when you buy them.

Adam Curry: So people think everything’s like a banana, but that’s just not true!

John C. Dvorak: Exactly! When you buy a pineapple, look for one that is gold-colored, not green. If it’s all green, it’s not going to ripen and will likely be sour and less sweet than it should be. The gold-colored ones stand out when you find them, and that’s the one you want to buy. When you cut one open, they’re super sweet, and the core is edible. It’s unbelievable how good a ripe pineapple can be, but remember, it won’t ripen after you buy it.

Adam Curry: Good news, that’s good advice, John!
