Melinda’s Fire Roasted Jalapeño Sauce

John: One of the hot sauce providers out there is called Melinda’s. You can find Melinda’s Hot Sauces online and buy directly from their store.

Now, they also have distribution in grocery stores, but if you’re looking for a particular one—Melinda’s Fire Roasted Jalapeño Sauce… It’s a mild sauce, maybe a two out of five on the heat scale. It’s basically a version of salsa verde.

I make salsa verde myself, but there’s something about this particular blend that’s almost addictive. It goes on everything—breakfast, eggs, hash browns, steak, chicken. Everyone in the family agrees it’s borderline addictive. It’s that good.

All their hot sauces are great, and they come in nice reusable bottles. If you want to clean them out, you’ll need a bottle brush—another tip of the day, everybody, get a bottle brush!

Now, here’s what I was going to complain about. You can order directly from their website, but you have to spend $25 or $50 to get free shipping. Or, you can buy it on Amazon with free shipping—but it costs $10.95 instead of $6.95. Why is Amazon jacking up the price by $4? Because the “free shipping” is a scam for a lot of products on Amazon. I’m going to file a complaint, and I wish more people would do the same with the Federal Trade Commission.

Adam: Oh, can you give us a template complaint letter?

John: I could put one in the newsletter.

Adam: That’s a great idea.

John: It’s just not right. You already pay a fortune for Amazon Prime—used to be $75, now it’s over $100—and they still jack up the price by $4, which is what you’d pay for shipping if you bought it directly from Melinda’s.

Adam: “Hey, Bob, what’s with all these letters from some podcast?”

There you go, everybody—if you want to eat well, if you want the right things in your mouth, listen to John C Dvorak’s Tip of the Day.
