John: Okay, this time I’ll talk a little bit about glassware.

Adam: Glassware—nice.

John: I think people should have the proper glassware when they serve alcoholic beverages.

Adam: I’m happy to hear this because I could not agree more. I think we do not have good glassware here in the Curry compound, so I’m very interested in this particular tip.

John: I could probably do a whole series on this, but I’m going to focus on one in particular because this is a good one—it’ll make it really look like you know what you’re doing.

Now, I understand there are different types of glasses: a Burgundy glass, a Bordeaux glass, a Sauternes glass—they’re all slightly different. You can have different glasses. The old-fashioned brandy snifter, for example, has been passé for the last 20 years. If you pull one of those out, you’re a rube. Let’s start with that.

So, you either want a cognac glass or something similar, but today, we’re going to discuss the Glencairn Scotch Whisky Glass—a glass everyone should own.

Adam: Oh! I think I have one of these.

John: You have a Glencairn glass?

Adam: I think so. It’s a tiny glass.

John: Not that tiny.

Adam: It has kind of a bulb shape, and then up at the top…

John: Look it up—just search “Glencairn.” Or, if you want, go to glencairnwhiskyglass.com to find a vendor.

Adam: Yes! This is the one I have. I have a set.

John: You have a set?

Adam: Well, I have two. I think they came with the bottle. Well, now you have to talk about glassware for the next three shows.

Adam: I can definitely do that.

John: The Glencairn glass is the Scotch whisky glass—period.

Adam: Yes.

John: You can serve bourbon or other spirits in it, but technically, you’re kind of violating the rules. It’s really a Scotch glass. But it’s a classy-looking glass. It’s like a tulip with a foot. This is an excellent glass, and for Scotch drinkers, I highly recommend getting a set—maybe six. They’re available everywhere: Amazon, various retailers, or the website I mentioned. They can get pretty fancy, but the standard one is all you need.

Adam: Now I feel bad because—Tina’s going to be annoyed—I can’t remember the name of this distillery. There are these guys who make bourbon, and I know it’s not Scotch whisky, but their bourbon is aged in a sherry cask. I think they might be based in Texas. They sent me their bourbon along with a set of these glasses.

John: Bourbon can’t be from Texas!

Adam: Well, they sent me their bourbon and a set of Glencairn glasses.

Is it okay for bourbon too?

John: Well… not really. But it’s not a bad idea either.
